Saugus was first settled in 1629, but today, the town has a total area of 11.8 square miles and has a current population of about 27,000 residents.

Saugus is divided into several neighborhoods, including Saugus Center, East Saugus, North Saugus, Pleasant Hill, Lynnhurst, Oaklandvale and Cliftondale. Of these, the majority of the town’s population resides in Lynnhurst, Pleasant Hills, Cliftondale, East Saugus and Saugus Center; Oaklandvale and North Saugus are much less densely populated.

Saugus is in the southern portion of Essex County bordered by Lynnfield to the north, Lynn to the east, Revere to the south, and Melrose and Wakefield and Malden to the west. Saugus isĀ 8 miles southwest of Salem, 9 miles northeast of Boston, 24 miles southwest of Cape Ann and 20 miles south of the New Hampshire state line.

Saugus has been well endowed by nature with its incredible parks, camping grounds and river. The Breakheart Reservation State Park is an excellent place to go fishing, swimming, hiking and biking. One should also visit the Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site where one can see the reconstructed blast furnace, rolling mill, forge and also a restored 17th century building.
